“SEEK YE FIRST…

the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you”

Matthew 6:33

As I’m rushing around this morning, thinking of all the things I want to improve and do, God reminded me, AGAIN, of this verse. I spent my whole day yesterday knocking out my “To Do” list, and here I am pondering things to add to it. “Okay, this room looks good, but wouldn’t it look better with …” and “Oh I need to do ____ and ____ to my hair….get  a new___ for my wardrobe.” Writing my thoughts down, I seem so shallow. How do I justify this? Why are they my first thoughts in the morning?

I’m trying to always be doing things to make my life better…our lives, our home. That’s good right? That’s what I was telling myself when God tapped me on the shoulder. “Slow down my beloved. That prayer request by text…that’s how you decorate life. Your prayers and heart are the real beauty of your life.”

So, THIS is how to BE, not do. I know this. I am His! He is and has ALL I need. So that old verse, that I even sung as a child…”Seek ye-ee first the-uh king-dom of God, and His righteous-ne-ess, and all these things shall be added unto you, Halle-lu, Hall-lay-lu-yah!”

So what does that mean for me? What does that look like for you?

So I’m inviting you into my pondering and encouraging us BOTH to Look for Him first.

Let’s search out God right when we wake up. “Good morning God! This is the day You have made, I’m rejoicing and being glad in it!” “Holy Spirit center me, guide me to the real priorities of this day.”  The Message version puts it so well and explains WHY He wants us to do this. Let’s pray it together today:

Dearest Father Who loves me far more than I can imagine, I praise You for this Word! Holy Spirit help me look at the wildflowers and realize they never primp or shop, but yet no-one has ever seen color and design quite like it! The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them.

If You give such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—help me realize You’ll attend to me.  Lord, I’m your creation and child, this is YOUR house, so of course You’ll take pride in me… do Your best for us. Jesus, help me relax. Forgive me for being so preoccupied with “getting” and not responding  to Your giving. People who don’t know God and the way You work fuss over these things, but I know You, God, and how You work. Please forgive me for forgetting and getting wrapped up in my “To Do”s. Holy Spirit help me steep my life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. I hereby cancel out the lies and F.O.M.O. ! You are what’s going on, the real priority that does not disappoint. You are the TRUE CENTER of life and life abundant!

I’m giving my entire attention to what You are doing right now, God. I purpose NOT to get worked up about what may or may not get done today or happen tomorrow…my face, hair, nails… the house decor. You will help me deal with whatever  things come up when the time comes. You are the Great Designer of my life. So all these “things” I lay at Your feet until I can put You first today. Amen.
